Mini Textile Sculpture - Algae yarn, Beads, Wool, Wire
Techniques: Crochet, Weaving

12x12x3.5 cm

This abstract mini-textile sculpture explores the intricate dynamics of relationships in nature, where one organism is inhibited or destroyed, while the other remains unaffected. The piece is composed of interwoven dark, tangled threads and materials that evoke a sense of organic complexity and tension.

The black and deep green algae yarn elements resemble twisted vines or roots, suggestive of entanglement and obstruction, symbolizing the suppression experienced in amensal relationships. Adorned with iridescent beads that catch the light, the sculpture contrasts the idea of subtle beauty. These small reflective details add a delicate touch, creating a juxtaposition between harshness and fragility.

Through its densely knotted, chaotic form, Amensalism challenges the viewer to reflect on the nature of imbalance and unintentional harm within ecosystems and human interactions. The tactile texture invites closer inspection, offering multiple layers of interpretation—both in its physical complexity and symbolic resonance.
