November 21 - December 5 2024
Photographic exhibition
Organized by: Sofia Market Central Halls & Programata
We open our doors on November 21 and invite you to visit the universe of handmade art and craftsmanship, where tradition and modernity meet in the hands of ten Bulgarian craftsmen.
The exhibition "The Artisans of Sofia" is our homage to the people who keep the spirit of old crafts alive and who create against the backdrop of urban dynamics and consumer culture. Deyan Yordanov's shots capture not only details of manual labor, but also the invisible pulse of old studios and narrow spaces where craftsmanship meets history. Each photo is a separate story - about the hands that shape leather and wood, about the wrinkles sculpted by time, and about the modest greatness of these people, guardians of the capital's traditions.
Luthiers, watchmakers, weavers, photographers and calligraphers share their art, inspiring and preserving our cultural heritage. Join us to explore their world, filled with passion, skills and traditions that must be preserved.

The Starving Artist
"Break the Silence to End the Violence" addresses the urgent issue of gender-based violence (GBV), a pervasive obstacle to gender equality and a critical human rights challenge across Europe. This exhibition, supported by The Starving Artist and the Young European Movement (YEM), seeks to amplify awareness and drive change through visual storytelling, data, and lived experiences, offering a powerful platform to highlight the range of abuses faced by individuals, particularly women, in today’s society—from physical and psychological violence to financial control and cyber abuse. Despite progress, GBV remains entrenched; in the UK, for instance, one woman is killed every three days. -

The Open Air Ethnographic Museum «Etar»
The exhibition includes works created by students from the "Textiles - Art and Design" department at the National Academy of Arts. The exhibition aims to show the connection between tradition in the field of textiles and its transformation in modern times.
The selection of works for the exhibition is entirely subordinated to the traditional Bulgarian techniques studied in the specialty: weaving, felting, embroidery and others, and the teachers' desire to preserve the heritage of Bulgarian visual culture. For this purpose, exhibits have been selected in which the communication between tradition and modernity in the field of textile art and textile design is evident.
The exhibition was realized thanks to the partnership between the Regional Open Air Ethnographic Museum, Gabrovo and the National Academy of Arts.
The exhibition takes place within the framework of the open competition for Scientific and artistic activity at the National Academy of Arts for 2023 and 2024.

The “Threads of Tomorrow” exhibition transcends the mere presentation of artworks; it is a journey that leads us from the past towards the future. With the participation of 69 contemporary artists from various parts of the world, this exhibition not only celebrates human creativity but also recognizes the importance of manual labor throughout history. The 148 exhibited works bear witness to the human capacity to transform natural fibers, simple materials, and textile ornaments into complex expressions of ideas and emotions, honoring the artisanal tradition that has brought us to this point.

The authors were tasked with deciphering the significance of the number 21. This aligns, to some extent, with the year 2021 when the exhibition was initially planned. Unfortunately, the arrival of the Covid pandemic disrupted the UBA's exhibition plans, leading to a rescheduling of the event for 2022. However, one can explore alternative interpretations of the number—whether it be a symbol, a mental connection to a piece of literature, a movie, a mathematical expression, or a intricate pattern.
